Like all people of Ukrainian descent we have been living a strange existence since the beginning of the war. There is a sadness that follows you every day. There is a sense of dread that the news is just going to be worse and worse. There is the spark of hope and the gut wrenching slap in the face when you read the stories and see the pictures. There is a sense of guilt over one’s own comfortable existence.
We were working on a song. It was an instrumental. Our good friends Will and Arthur at Collector Studios here in Winnipeg offered us studio time on the house if we wanted to do something to raise funds. We said yes to this generous offer and added a single line to the song. That line is: Музика це не печаль, сто не скаче той москаль!
It means ‘music is not suffering-if you’re not jumping you’re a muscovite.’ It’s a variation on something that Ukrainians having been chanting for years.
In rehearsals it became a great song for pouring out negative emotions. The yelling helps!
We then approached a group that we knew was making an impact in Ukraine. Saint Javelin which was founded by Christian Borys has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to a variety of groups supporting war affected people in Ukraine. All this through selling really rad shirts and stickers.
We offered them the song and we were lucky enough to have an amazing designer in-house who would design the shirt inspired by the song. Our drummer and artist extraordinaire Nick Luckhak made a shirt inspired by the song which was inspired by jumping on a wish to have someone jump on putin's head.
All profits from the song and shirt during the month of July went to Unite with Ukraine. They support soldiers and their families. We encourage you to check them out and donate or really just help out in any way you can. The Javelin Jump shirts are still available at www.saintjavelin.com/collections/javelin-jump-zrada
Thank you for reading. We appreciate all of you, our fans. Big Zrada hugs to each and every one of you.
